The ABC-R Programme is for travellers who wish to visit and stay in a new country, learn and develop their skills, experience local culture, and contribute to their host community.
Visit well known locations, but live like the locals with hosts, and discover lesser known experiences!
In return for your host’s hospitality, you provide your time and skills. If you wish to, provide monetary donations to help defray household costs such as electricity and water bills
Each programme and location has its own set of learning opportunities. To get the most out of the experience, we recommend that you prepare your own learning objectives while keeping an open mind.
The purpose of this project is to allow you to travel and live like a local as you step into the shoes of the people that you live and work with. Time to stay out of your comfort zone and say YES to new experiences!
Take note of the visa requirements of the Host Country
For Singapore: Best for students and undergraduates
For Philippines: Best for Budding Entrepreneurs, artists
For Indonesia: Best for artists and undergraduates
Be tidy, polite and considerate at all times
Respect the local culture and customs, as well as the house rules of your host
Be committed and responsible. The tasks that you promised to do should be completed satisfactorily according to the agreed upon timeline
Don’t be shy. If you encounter any problems you should always let your host know!
Although accommodation is at low cost, please budget adequately for meals and other personal expenses. There will be no borrowing from your hosts!
You may either provide for yourself, or seek financial assistance by fundraising, sponsorships or pre-arranged work arrangements.
If you would like to work in the host country, please contact your host to make prior arrangements. Also, please be aware of the host country’s visa rules and limitations before you start work.
No Begging or Busking is allowed. Let’s be professional about this!
Do seek prior agreement with your host and/or mentor before you start.
